According to the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), professional investors are individuals or institutions with sufficient financial capacity and professional knowledge to understand and bear investment risks.

These investors typically include institutional investors, high-net-worth individuals, licensed securities professionals, and other entities that meet the SFC's requirements.

Corporate Professional Investors: Corporations or partnerships with a portfolio of not less than HKD 8 million (or equivalent in foreign currency) or total assets of not less than HKD 40 million (or equivalent in foreign currency) on the relevant date.

Institutional Professional Investors: Institutions defined as professional investors under Schedule 1 of the Securities and Futures Ordinance, such as banks, brokerage firms, insurance companies, or other regulated intermediaries.
